On Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, the IPCC released the Synthesis Report of its 5th Assessment. This is the final edition of the AR5, and does more than bring together the reports of the three Working Groups, whose reports were released in installments, starting in September of 2013.
The takeaways are:
- Global climate disruption is happening faster than previously predicted.
- We must accelerate effort to reduce our emission of heat-trapping gases.
- There are economically efficient ways to do this: the report cites both cap and trade and carbon taxes, but highlights the efficiency of carbon taxes as a virtue.
